Differences between Italy & Northern Europe

• Oil Paint

     1)The artists of the North invented oil paint!

2)They use oil paint fifty years or more before they use it in Italy (where they use tempera).

3)The Renaissance in Northern Europe is very different from the Renaissance in Italy in Subject Matter and Appearance

a) Though Northern European artist painted religious scenes, they were fascinated by portraits and secular life

b) Paintings were Darker and Glossier
